Shane Anderson, Ward 2
A lifelong resident of the Monterey Bay area, Shane spent much of his childhood exploring the numerous habitats of Monterey County. He has taught middle school science in Salinas for 12 years, sharing his love and appreciation of the natural world.
He received his bachelor’s in biology from the University of Puget Sound and a Master of Science in coastal marine and watershed science and policy at CSU Monterey Bay. A strong believer in community service, he has volunteered with numerous nonprofits including the Monterey Chapter of Surfrider as an executive board member, Return of the Natives, Save The Waves, his school’s vegetable and native plant garden, and others.
Shane believes the region’s open spaces are some of the most valuable resources we have. He spends his free time surfing, hiking, working on his native plant and vegetable garden, sailing, with family and friends, birdwatching, painting, volunteering, and simply sitting and observing the natural beauty of the region. An active outdoor recreationalist who frequents our regional parks, Shane believes access to world-class natural resources is one of the many things that make Monterey County a special place.
Shane currently lives in Seaside, CA. Shane feels honored to represent Ward 2 on the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District Board of Directors and sees this as an opportunity to help improve the access to open spaces and recreation programs. He joined the MPRPD Board in September 2015.
