Monta Potter, Ward 5
Monta Potter was elected in November 2018 as a Director representing Ward 5. She hails from the state of Washington and grew up hiking and camping around Mt St Helens while working at a YMCA Camp. That, and being a Girl Scout from 2nd grade through high school, led her to a degree in Parks & Recreation Administration from the University of Washington. She added a Master’s in Parks & Recreation from the University of Oregon and after moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 2001, earned another Master’s in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.
Her career has included 30 years as a nonprofit CEO, as head of two Girl Scout councils in Oregon and Illinois and as CEO of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce from 2003-2017. Since her retirement from the Chamber of Commerce, she is working part-time for ParkIT!, working on issues of traffic congestion and visitor management surrounding Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and south.
She is a life-long hiker and camper and looks forward to serving as a board member and contributing her leadership to Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District.
