Kevin Raskoff, Ward 3
Kevin Raskoff is a long-time resident of Del Rey Oaks, where he lives with his wife, Kimberly, and their two children. He grew up in Southern California as the son of two college professors and spent every holiday exploring and camping in the parks up and down the state. Fascinated by the oceans from an early age, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology and Systematic Biology with a concentration in Fisheries and Marine Biology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and then continued his studies earning his Ph.D. in Biology from University of California, Los Angeles.
He is the chair of the Biology department at Monterey Peninsula College and teaches environmental science, marine biology, general biology, and ecology and evolution courses. Previous to MPC, he taught full time at CSUMB for three years, and prior to that was a researcher at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute studying the ecology of the Monterey deep sea environment. He specializes in deep sea jellyfish, has over 15 scientific publications, and has discovered and described 6 new species. He is a founding member of Sustainable Del Rey Oaks, is the faculty advisor for the MPC student Environmental Club, and participates on the professional advisory panel for Monterey Academy of Oceanographic Science at Monterey High School.
The parks offer solitude in an increasingly overwhelming world. They are a place we can meet our friends, exercise our body and mind, and reconnect with the natural world. Kevin’s goals are to help the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District increase access and opportunities for our residents and visitors to enjoy, conserve, and support our regional parks.
